GREAT MUSEUMS is underwritten by the Eureka Foundation, a private 501 (c) (3) operating foundation established to promote the educational power of television and new media.
The foundation’s overall mission is to provide funding and support for cultural programming which specifically promotes the global museum world. Founded nearly 10 years ago by Michael D. McCarthy, the Eureka Foundation has worked primarily with the television and new media documentary series, GREAT MUSEUMS. The foundation has also supported related endeavors to help bolster the greater museum community. Most recently, the Eureka Foundation sponsored an arts and humanitarian trip to Cuba for the GREAT MUSEUMS team in support of the premiere of its one-hour special “Curious About Cuba: Great Museums of Havana” on Cuban national television. Subsequently, the Eureka Foundation provided support for a group of prominent Cuban museum professionals to attend the annual meeting of the American Association of Museums in Los Angeles, CA.
