The National Museum of Mexican Art

At the National Museum of Mexican Art (formerly the Mexican Fine Arts Center) in Chicago, visitors are treated to an eye-popping experience.  Centuries of colorful Mexican art from both sides of the border explain the roots of indigenous Mexican people. “We don’t want to rewrite history at this museum. We’re trying to tell history correctly for the first time,” explains museum founder Carlos Tortolero, a former high school teacher.  “For a lot of Mexicans, we didn’t cross the border, the border crossed us. So we were already here and we influenced this country in so many ways.
